Der Die Das is a German vocabulary-learning app designed to help users discover German nouns from everyday objects, learn the correct article (der, die, or das), save vocabulary, review words, and track learning progress.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Der Die Das accesses, collects, uses, stores, and shares when you use the app.

1. Information we collect and use

Account information

Der Die Das supports account authentication using email and password and Google Sign-In.

If you create an account using email, we may process your email address, authentication identifier, and information required to securely manage your account.

If you choose Continue with Google, Der Die Das may receive information made available by Google for authentication, such as your email address, display name, profile image, and Google-linked authentication identifier.

We use this information to authenticate you, identify your Der Die Das account, provide account-related features, and restore or synchronize eligible app data.

Camera and object scanning

Der Die Das requests access to your device camera when you use the object-scanning feature. Camera access is used to allow you to photograph or scan an object so the app can identify it and provide relevant German vocabulary.

Images may be processed as necessary to provide object-recognition and vocabulary features. Der Die Das does not use your camera in the background.

You can deny or revoke camera permission at any time through your Android device settings. If camera permission is disabled, features that require object scanning will not work.

Vocabulary and learning progress

Der Die Das may store learning information such as discovered words, saved words, German articles, review activity, learning progress, streak information, accuracy, mastery information, and related learning preferences.

Some information may be stored locally on your device. Where cloud synchronization is available and enabled for your account or subscription, eligible learning data may also be stored in our Supabase backend so it can be synchronized or restored.

Pronunciation and text-to-speech

Der Die Das may use text-to-speech functionality to pronounce German vocabulary. Text-to-speech may be provided by Android, Google, or another speech service installed on your device.

The app does not require microphone access for its standard vocabulary pronunciation functionality.

Subscription and purchase information

Der Die Das may offer optional Pro subscriptions or other in-app purchases. Payments are processed by Google Play.

Der Die Das does not receive or store your full payment card details. We may receive and process information required to verify and manage your Pro access, such as product ID, purchase token or verification information, subscription status, entitlement status, expiration information, and related purchase identifiers.

Purchase information may be verified using Google Play services and our backend to determine whether Pro features should be available to your account.

App settings and local data

Der Die Das may store app preferences and operational information on your device, including language preferences, review state, saved vocabulary, learning settings, notification preferences, usage limits, and authentication session information.

2. How we use information

We use information as necessary to:

• provide object-scanning and German vocabulary features;
• identify German nouns and help you learn der, die, or das;
• save and restore your vocabulary and learning progress;
• provide pronunciation and learning features;
• authenticate and secure your account;
• provide eligible cloud synchronization features;
• manage Der Die Das Pro access and subscription entitlements;
• remember your app preferences;
• provide and manage advertising for eligible free users;
• maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the app; and
• respond to support, privacy, or account deletion requests.

3. Third-party services

Der Die Das may rely on the following service providers:

• Supabase — authentication, database services, eligible cloud synchronization, and secure backend functions.
• Google Sign-In — optional Google account authentication.
• Google Play — app distribution, in-app purchases, and subscription billing.
• Google AdMob — advertising services for eligible free users.
• Android / device text-to-speech services — pronunciation of vocabulary where this feature is used.

These service providers may process information according to their own privacy policies and terms. We do not sell your personal information.

4. Advertising

The free version of Der Die Das may display advertisements provided by Google AdMob.

AdMob and its partners may automatically process certain information such as device information, advertising identifiers, IP address, app interaction information, diagnostic information, and other data required to deliver, measure, secure, and improve advertising services.

Depending on your location, device settings, consent choices, and applicable law, advertising may be personalized or non-personalized.

Der Die Das may use advertising formats including interstitial ads, rewarded ads, and app open ads. Rewarded ads are shown in connection with optional in-app benefits where applicable.

Users with an eligible Pro subscription may receive an ad-free experience where this benefit is included in their subscription.

5. Data sharing

We do not sell personal or sensitive user data.

Information may be shared with service providers only when necessary to operate the app, authenticate users, provide cloud functionality, process or verify Google Play purchases, provide advertising, protect the service, or comply with applicable legal obligations.

6. Data security

Der Die Das uses reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect user information.

Data transmitted between the app and supported backend services is transmitted using secure network connections such as HTTPS. Access to cloud user data is restricted through authentication and database access controls.

No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data retention

Local app data may remain on your device until it is deleted through the app, cleared through device settings, removed as part of an account-related action, or the app is uninstalled.

Account and eligible cloud data may be retained while your Der Die Das account remains active.

Some limited information may be retained where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, purchase verification, legal compliance, dispute resolution, or other legitimate purposes.

8. Delete your account and data

If you have a Der Die Das account, you may request deletion of your account and associated cloud data through the account deletion option available in the app, where provided.

When your Der Die Das account is permanently deleted, associated account data and eligible cloud learning data are deleted, subject to limited information that we may need to retain for legitimate legal, security, fraud-prevention, or transaction record purposes.

Deleting your Der Die Das account does not delete your Google Account.

Account deletion also does not automatically cancel an active Google Play subscription. Google Play subscriptions must be canceled separately through Google Play.

9. Your choices and permissions

You may deny or revoke camera permission through Android settings. Camera-based scanning will not function while camera access is disabled.

Google Sign-In is optional where alternative authentication methods are available.

You may manage Google Play subscriptions through your Google Play account.

Advertising and privacy choices may also be available through Google services, your device settings, and consent controls presented where required by applicable law.

10. Children

Der Die Das is a general German vocabulary-learning application. It is not specifically designed to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.

If you believe that a child has provided personal information improperly, please contact us so we can review the request and delete information where required.

11. International processing

Our service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where applicable, such processing is handled according to the safeguards and legal requirements applicable to the relevant service provider and processing activity.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Der Die Das features, service providers, legal requirements, or data practices change.

When we publish changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be updated.
